Have you been awaiting a new version of the King Gwanghae story to pop out? (He seems to be a popular historical leader to use in film & dramas. ) Then you will be extremely excited about the upcoming saguek historical The Crowned Clown. Where we not only get a Prince & Pauper concept but twice the amount of Yeo Jin Goo. I think we can all agree that is a very good start to a drama.
Synopsis: Joseon is in a state of disorder due to uprisings and a power struggle surrounding King Lee Hun (Yeo Jin-Goo). To avoid assassination, a clown named Ha Sun (Yeo Jin-Goo) is brought to the palace to take the place of King Lee Hun. Ha Sun looks almost identical to King Lee Hun. (Asianwiki)
When Ha Sun was a child, his parents died during an epidemic. Ha Sun almost died from starvation around that time, but he was saved by a group of clowns. Ha Sun grew up with the clowns and became one of them. During their performance, Ha Sun would play King Lee Hun due to their similar physical appearance. Now, Ha Sun is nervous that someone in the palace will find out he is not the real king. He falls for beautiful Queen Yoo So-Woon
If you think this story sounds awfully familiar then you might be thinking of the film Masquerade which the drama is based on. The movie was OK if not overly, memorable. And I admit that I am much more excited to watch Yeo Jin Goo portray the titular role. My only concern is my knowledge of this time in Korean history. How will the writer manage to make the content feel fresh and exciting?
The Crowned Clown begins airing on January 7th. Will this drama make the cut on your upcoming winter watch list?
