Is grumpy old men with an inner soft side, solving crime, your kind of show? If so, then The Chase might be just the movie for you this weekend.
SYNOPSIS:
Sim Deok Soo is a grumpy landlord running a run-down apartment complex. Suddenly his tenants begin disappearing under suspicious circumstances. A retired ex-detective shows up, claiming a serial murderer from 30 years back has returned. (IMDb)
THE PLOT

I didn’t quite know what to expect when I pushed play. What I didn’t expect was a pretty creepy thriller and an adorable cranky landlord combing to win my heart. The story is pretty fast paced and I really enjoyed all the connections that developed between the landlord and the people around him. It was a good mix of murder and humor, something I really enjoy.
CINEMATOGRAPHY

While being a bit more graphic then I like, the suspense of knowing who is going to die next and waiting for the eventual murder was well orchestrated. The director was really able to make these moments intense and ominous.
CHARACTER OBSERVATIONS

Sim Deok Soo was such a fun character. He really made the show for me and helped me ignore a few plot twists that didn’t completely work. It is amazing what a likable character will make you ignore inconsistencies.
OVERALL REACTION

This was worth watching. While not the most amazingly crafted story, it gave me an enjoyable two hours of murdering escapades. I liked the cat and mouse feel and was satisfied with the ending. I give it a 7/10
