A lot of great sounds and great voices landed on my playlist this week and my listening has been better for it. I’m delighted to share them with you, as long as you tell me which ones land on your playlist too! Come check out what I found after the jump.
Kim Sung Kyu – “I’m Cold”
This song is completely appropriate as a December release, but more importantly, Infinite’s Kim Sung Kyu’s VOICE is perfect — gritty and emotional and talented. I love this song so much.
AB6IX – “Stay Young”
I’m loving AB6IX’s sound in this song. They have a great contrast between their deep-voiced rapper and the light melody, and it feels hopeful and confident. I am ALL about hopefulness lately – check it out!
T1419 – “Asurabalabalta”
This debut is fascinating — T1419 is a South Korean/Japanese group, and the boys are all between 14 and 19. They have a very solid, polished sound, reminiscent of MCND’s debut. It’ll be interesting to see where they go.
Jang Han Byul – “Used to This”
I’m loving the vibe of this song — it’s lighthearted and has a super danceable beat. If you recognize the voice, it’s because you’ve heard Jang Han Byul sing on the Mr. Queen and I Picked Up a Celebrity Off the Street OSTs. Looking forward to more from him!
Oneus – “No diggity”
Did I save my favorite for last? You bet I did! Oneus’ sound continues to evolve as they swing between darker numbers like “No diggity” to bops like “Bbusyeo”, and I am HERE for it — they never disappoint me. Lee Do’s deep rap paired with Hwan Woong’s melodic vocals is one of my favorite things ever.
BONUS TRACK: “The Wellerman”
Ok, being on Twitter meant that it was IMPOSSIBLE to miss the sea shanty trend that has taken over TikTok. Not that I mind — sea shanties are the songs of my ancestors, after all. ALSO, you have to listen to the deep voices involved in the harmonies because I love them so. Anyway, enjoy my favorite sea shanty mashup, complete with historical facts and a little EDM.
