This week’s MVs were a revelation, music fans! None of them are in-your-face with their colors or sound, but they grabbed my ears and wouldn’t let go. Come see what I found, including a brand new group that is definitely owning their noble concept.
U-KNOW – “Eeny Meeny”
Yunho has quite the mellow bop here and I am LOVING it. His smooth moves and fantastic chemistry with Red Velvet’s Seulgi make for a visual delight — this MV is something I could watch over and over again.
Kang Daniel – “Paranoia”
I love seeing artistic growth, and I think this represents a HUGE leap for Kang Daniel. This MV is dark and rich, capturing the deep lyrics with its imagery and conjuring up the same feelings I had while watching Taemin’s “Criminal”.
Lucy – “Hero”
One of the things that Lucy does best is sticking to the sound that got them to where they are. “Hero” is mellow and upbeat, a delightful contrast smoothed over by Seong Yeop’s grounded vocals. I love that they take time to feature Ye Chan’s violin part — it really sets them apart.
Gemini – “Going”
This one flew under my radar, but I’m glad I found it! Gemini/Jaymin has the kind of voice that just soothes, jazzy and melodic and full of emotion. The MV has captured a longing, retro vibe that resonates with the lyrics — and his blue hair is just so COOL!
Kingdom – “Excalibur”
Raise your hand if you thought, for just a hot second, that this MV had something to do with MNet’s Kingdom. Me too! But instead, Kingdom made their debut just last week with the very strong “Excalibur”, staying true to their royalty motif — each idol chose as a stage name the name of a past king somewhere in the world. The details are rich and lovely, and the boys have a good, solid sound. It’ll be interesting to see what they do next!

Until the next debut, I remain —
