It’s so satisfying to watch artists be what seems to be completely themselves. They’re stronger and perform better, in my opinion. From the wackiness of Peakboy and the Wooga Squad to Kim Woojin’s artistic debut, come check out the strong artists who caught my eye in this week’s Top 5 Kpop MVs.
Peakboy – “Gyopo Hairstyle”
I canNOT tell you how much I love this MV. The Wooga Squad is out in full force to support one of their own, and it’s a delight. Not familiar with the Wooga Squad? Watch for cameos by BTS’s V (the waiter), Park Seo Joon (tv producer), Park Hyung Sik (restaurant customer), and Choi Woo Sik (the photographer). This MV reminded me how much I need V and Hyungsik in another drama! Oh yeah — the song is a ton of fun too. 😀
JinYoung (GOT7) – “Dive”
I love the light, breezy sound of this single by Jinyoung. His voice fits the mood perfectly, the simplicity of the MV complements the song very, very well, and I’m loving his absolute confidence in front of the camera. Check it out!
Dreamcatcher – “BEcause”
Trust Dreamcatcher to take a summer song and add their own candy gothic twist to it. The visuals are absolutely fascinating, and the song is exactly what I love about Dreamcatcher — a heavy rock vibe contrasting with the light, strong vocals.
Astro – “After Midnight”
At first glance, this MV seems like your typical colorful summer bop. But what I kept seeing was intensity — the colors are intense, the idols’ styling is intense, and the choreo is intense. I’m liking it — it’s a good look on Astro.
Kim Woojin – “Still Dream” and “Ready Now”
I am so glad to see Woojin coming back and standing on his own two feet. False accusations are the WORST, but it’s heartening to see idols come back even stronger (see also: Wonho). Woojin’s voice is so smooth and strong — I’m pretty sure I could listen to it all day.
BONUS TRACK: ONEUS – “Lit” (Taekwondo version)
I absolutely ADORE the fact that ONEUS teamed up with the K-Tigers for this “Lit” remix. It’s the MV I didn’t realize I had always wanted. Pause for a minute and just admire that amazing choreography and the gorgeous costumes with me, will you?
What artists do you admire for their strength, music fans? Drop down in the comments and let me know!
Until the next comeback, I remain —
