The holidays have been super busy this year so I don’t have as much time as I usually have to invest in drama watching. I have been able to sneak a few shows in, so of course, I want to share which ones are really working for me.
Alchemy of Souls

Alchemy of Souls is back with the final ten episodes that will hopefully lead to a happy conclusion…and make some sort of sense. With the leading actress changing between the two seasons, it is all kinds of crazy. I do like that they have written the change into the plot, and when it is a show about people taking over other bodies, it can be waved away as a basic plot point. I have watched the first two episodes of season 2 and the leads seem to have good chemistry. It is fun seeing all our favorite characters back in action and I have high hopes for a good ending.
Connect

To say I was shocked at how graphic this drama is would be an understatement. If you are not ok with violence, graphic icky body stuff, and nudity….this is not the drama for you. That said, the concept is really interesting and I am invested enough to see where this takes me. I have only watched two episodes, but the plot is unique. But again, you have been warned about the graphic nature of this drama. It really is intense.
The Good Detectives Season 2

This drama has the worst luck of getting subtitled and released internationally. The first season remained subless for around a year before dropping on Netflix. The sequel came a bit faster this time–only 6 months–but still long enough to be forgotten. Now season 2 is out and, if anything, it is starting stronger than season 1. All my favorite characters are back and they are butting heads with the establishment who want to avoid censure rather than achieve real justice. If you like crime dramas, then this is a must watch!
Somebody

I watched two episodes of this drama and found it mind-numbingly boring. I usually wouldn’t write about a drama that bored me, but I figured I would save others from suffering my fate. This is NOT at all a good show. An interesting premise, but even a serial killer can’t make this palatable.
Reborn Rich

I binged nine episodes of this drama in one sitting — I am totally hooked. It is very similar to Again My Life, released earlier in the year, but I find this story to be more fleshed out. I am a huge fan of adding historical events for context and Reborn Rich does it very well. There is less found family in this drama, but I believe it is portraying the power dynamic between Song Joong Ki and his nemesis better than in AML. This is a great binge watch if you like great acting and revenge plots.
There you have it, the dramas I have recently started. Do you agree with my thoughts? Are you watching any other great new dramas? Let me know in the comments, and be sure to check back as I start a ton of new shows in 2023.
