Lou C. on YouTube : Living Alone in Japan

It’s summer break and Little Clkytta and I are watching a wide range of shows and movies. Earlier this week, we discovered this lovely little slice-of-life YouTube channel, Lou C. Lou is a Filipina living and working in Japan. She started the channel in 2019 to share what her daily life is like as someone who lives alone in Japan. She rarely speaks, but she tells her story in writing on the video.

Slice of Life Delight

If you enjoy seeing how people go about their day, this is the show for you. We are obsessed with going to the store with Lou. She enjoys cooking (I do not, but I’m trying to be a better cook) and we already have several of her recipes that we want to try.

She takes you to the grocery store with her and it’s so interesting to see her shop and her decisions along the way. She usually has a plan for what she wants to make and buys most of the ingredients at once. What we like is that she shows her planning process, her trip to the store, the food preparations, and her enjoying her meal.

Real People, Real Life

While it’s enjoyable to watch her shop and cook, she also shares some of her struggles and the daily in and outs of her life. She lives far away from her family, so sometimes she struggles with being lonely. She shares how she deals with those feelings and we see her journaling, going to the park, making time for friends, and doing other self-care activities. Honestly, we feel motivated to take care of ourselves when we see her taking care of herself.

Filming Style

This is her very first video.

Lou rarely films her own face. She focuses on what is going on around her or in front of her. The camera work is steady and clear. She uses light background music that is soothing and sweet. If you are a fan of ASMR videos, you will enjoy her use of sound. It’s a mix of indoor and outdoor filming and she does a great job in showing the beauty of the world around her.

Final Thoughts

It takes a lot of bravery to allow the public into your daily life. Lou isn’t pretentious or over the top; she just goes about her day and shares it with us. She seems like a gentle soul, and I enjoy watching her videos a lot. I know there is a lot of content out there, but I think this one is well worth your time.

Leave a comment if you have watched this channel and let me know what you think!

Until the next time,
