Top 8 Kpop MVs: Playlist Perfection!

These new music releases have set the bar HIGH for the rest of the year — my 2024 playlist is off to a terrific start!! I’m super excited to share music from Kpop queen IU and consummate performers TVXQ!! Plus, I also can’t wait to hype the other artists, both familiar and fresh, that round out this recent batch of songs!! Curious?? Check them out with me now!

IU – ‘Love Wins All’

What’s even better than a beautiful new ballad from IU?? A MV for said ballad, co-starring V from BTS, that’s what! This pairing was simply PERFECT. The visual story unfolding alongside these emotional lyrics and IU’s gorgeous vocals was absolutely soul-wrenching. Grab some Kleenex and get ready to hit the replay button, because you cannot watch this MV just once!!

TVXQ – ‘Rebel’

I’m loving this dark but charismatic new track from TVXQ!! Kicking things off with a punch, tripping through an unexpectedly bright melody, surging into the pre-chorus build-up and then dropping into a yo-yo of a chorus?! This song is CRAZY, but in a good way — U-Know and Changmin never fail to deliver a bold performance!!

SF9 – ‘Bibora’

It’s their first comeback since RoWoon left the group, and SF9 is still bringing the gorgeous visuals, smooth vocals, tight raps and sharp choreo they are known for!! The angsty MV concept might initially seem at odds with the disco pop beat of ‘Bibora,’ but trust me . . . it works!!

&Team – ‘Dropkick’

Feeling a little down? Need some encouragement?? &Team’s new title track, ’Dropkick,’ is a fantastic and uplifting anthem!! And do I love that the accompanying MV gives it a dash of High School Musical flavor?! I absolutely do!! I hope this all-vocal, Japanese-based team continues to maintain their strong presence in the K-pop scene!

HUI – ‘Hmm Bop’

If you read that title and got flashbacks to Hanson, you’re not alone! But don’t worry!! This new solo song from Pentagon’s HUI pulls more inspiration, in both vocal color and choreo, from the King of Pop. The MV concept feels like it’s giving a nod to the styling of the 80’s as well — retro but new, this song is a lot of fun!

Gyubin – ‘Really Like You’

This fresh-faced 17-year-old has impeccable vocals and her debut single ‘Really Like You’ is positively delightful!! The rock-pop beat is engaging and the brightly colored MV is a dose of sunshine on a dreary day — can’t wait to hear more from this lovely young lady!

TRENDZ – ‘Go Up’

TRENDZ recently dropped a new single and I’m loving the energy (and slightly tropical beat?!) of this bouncy bop!! The complementary vocals and rapid rap runs are perfectly balanced, while the playful choreo completes the package! It’s hard to be in a bad mood after watching these seven guys perform!!

tripleS – ‘Door’

The ladies of tripleS snuck onto my new release listen list, and I was unexpectedly captivated by this stunning ballad!! The soulful melody paired with the rise and fall of their vocals was breathtaking . . . sad songs have their own unique beauty and ‘Door’ is the perfect example!!

Happy to bring such a variety of new songs to this week’s post — drop down to the comments and let me know which one resonated with you!!
