Kmuse’s Book Reviews (February 19th, 2024)

This is the month of romance, which means I read a ton of books from the romance genre. Come find out which were my favorites in this week’s book review.

The Wrath by Gena Showalter

I am a long-time fan of Gena Showalter’s fantasy romance books. This book is part of a series, and I recommend reading it all. However, if you are someone who finds it easy to jump into books that are standalone but deal with characters from other books and their implied story arcs, then this is a great one to read just because. I loved Rathbone and Neeka as a couple. They were the best kind of chaotic romance, and it was impossible to not just have fun with this story. The Wrath has a medium level of spice.

Bride by Ali Hazelwood

Bride was such a great romantasy! I was not expecting to enjoy this book since I hadn’t clicked with one of Ali Hazelwood’s previous books, but Bride blew my expectations out of the water. The world-building was excellent, and I couldn’t be more invested in Misery and Lowe’s romance. I especially appreciated that there was constant fleshing out of the whole story. It didn’t just create the basic premise and then focus only on the romance. The political dynamics and friendships helped pull the story together. I can’t wait to try out more of her books and see if the magic I felt when reading this can be replicated. This book had a lot of spice in the second half.

The Fake Mate by Lana Fergusen

This book seems to be both loved and hated on book-themed social media. I was in the camp that loved it. Will this be the romance that I judge all other romances against? No. But it was fun, fluffy, and a great fast romantic read. Just a heads up that this book deals with ABO (Alpha, Beta, Omega) tropes and the spice gets really steamy.

The Whisper House by Dawn Merriman

The Whisper House is book three in the Rylann Flinn series, and with each book I have become more and more invested in her story. You might notice this isn’t a romance. However, if you are like me, you need a break when it comes to romance in February and might be ready to shift to a mystery. So I thought I would throw this book/series into the mix. If you are looking for a cozy mystery series that has a small dose of horror (very small) then this is the perfect series for you. I highly recommend it.
