Those of you who follow the podcast know that I am a huge fan of fall. And the second the fall vibes roll in, I start watching mystery/suspense TV chock full of serial killers, murder, and angst. I am an equal opportunity watcher and will watch anything (from any country) that gives me that murder mystery feel, but this list will specifically be some of my recent favorites from South Korea.
My favorite Korean summer movie of 2022, Alienoid, was a brilliant blast of sci-fi and time travel and the many facets of Kim Woo Bin, Ryu Joon Yeol, and Kim Tae Ri. It left me wanting more, so while I’m *very* patiently waiting for the sequel to appear, I’ll be keeping myself entertained with other dramas to fill the void. Come see what I think will keep the fires stoked for Alienoid 2!
When we were young, summer was a time to be lazy, and have way more hours to ride our bikes, and swim in the pond, or just swing on the tire swing. Yeah, I’m dating myself! Now it’s a brief time when I can stop worrying about the school emails and driving the kids everywhere and just relax into a good romantic drama. Thankfully, dramaland has followed through on bringing me the romance that I’ve been longing. Here are the top 5 romance dramas that I’m watching right now, and why you might want to check them out. They are in no particular order.
We are two years into a global pandemic, and there is a lot of stress in the world. So what do we Fangirls do when things get tough? Watch more dramas, of course. However, sometimes you just don’t feel up to experiencing something new, and that’s where this post comes into play. Come find out which dramas Kmuse and Drama Geek think are the best comfort rewatches to get you through the rough patches of life.
When the air starts getting cooler and the world slows down, my mood shifts. And since, like all good kdrama fans, I let my mood dictate the dramas I watch, my craving for urban fantasy dramas gets stronger. Come see the nine urban fantasy dramas I recommend for fall, and the one urban fantasy drama that gets a hard no from me no matter what.
My crack drama right now is Honey Lee’s new show, One the Woman, about a crooked prosecutor and a chaebol daughter-in-law who look alike and are mistaken for each other. She is a lot like her character in The Fiery Priest, but this time she is funny. It is also funny that the title in Korean can be pronounced either as “One the Woman” or as “Wonder Woman.” We have four reasons why you should watch this show.
Sometimes I find myself in an absurd place, where I want to watch something that will make me laugh, but that isn’t light and fluffy. Dark comedy to the rescue! Come check out four shows that have filled my very specific humor needs.
In light of the violence against Asian Americans, we wanted to strongly state our continued support for the AAPI community. As you know, we have a deep appreciation for stories and music from all cultures. It’s fair to say that this interest we share has even changed our lives, and we’re grateful for the Asian and Asian American people that continue to share their time and their passions with us. The Fangirls are committed to supporting people from all walks of life — Black, AAPI, LGBTQ+, and many more.
In my ongoing quest to recommend dramas by their writers rather than their actors, I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to explore more of what writer Park Hye Ryun has to offer. She is SO VERY SKILLED at tying together warm characters and tight plots that I find myself entertained every time I watch. And look at Start Up! Kim Seon Ho shot onto the A-list because of the drama, as have other Park Hye Ryun second leads. Come see what else you should watch if you liked Start Up.
