Karie the Maknae

Howdy, y’all! Karie the Maknae here. I’m delighted to make your acquaintance.

Yes, sometimes I do talk like that in real life. I have lived in Texas for nearly a decade now — something was bound to rub off!

Back in January of 2017, I watched a trailer for Goblin on Facebook. It was the scene where Goblin brings two people together in a cafe while Eun Tak cheers for them to kiss. Then, as they walk away from the cafe, she asks him if he’s a guardian angel and pouts when she finds out that he was helping someone who had been pretty awful in his past life. How could I not be intrigued? I ended up watching the entire series in a week. I was the newest resident of kdramaland, and I haven’t looked back.

What else do you need to know about me? I have four kids: two teenage girls, and a boy and a girl who are in elementary school. I’ve been married to The Hubs for 18 years. Neither of us speaks Korean or has even thought much about Korea until now. 😀 I have a master’s degree in English (American Literature is what it’s officially filed under, but I wrote about epic fantasy for my thesis), I’ve been a freelance editor for many, many years, and I’m now a copywriter for a networking company.

With kdramas came the sudden, inevitable descent into the world of kpop. I want to claim I have one group that I listen to over and over, but variety is the name of my game! I’m partial to ATEEZ and BTS, but you can bet that pretty much anything is going to show up on my playlist at any time. I’m the one with the most playlists on our DwaSoK Spotify profile — you can check it out HERE. I’m always up for suggestions on which playlist I should make next!

I like to document my journey, so search for the Maknae’s Journey tag for drama reviews, music reviews, and book reviews! If you want to see what I’m watching, I keep my drama list pretty well updated. You’re welcome to take a peek any time.
