As I sit here in January of 2021, I’m remembering a time when I was an avid reader of a Kdrama blog called The Crazy Ahjummas. They were recapping a drama that I was deeply invested in called Mask. This drama had it all, mystery, doppelgangers, an OTP with amazing chemistry, and the best part, villainous villains! Stay with me as I run through the high points of why you should watch this masterpiece of mystery and intrigue. Beware, there are mild spoilers ahead.
Have you ever heard of a blackmailer for hire? Or of someone who gets wads of money in the mail and hides it in the closet? That’s what we’ve got here. It’s an interesting mix for sure. Was I the only one who had a hard time getting a handle on this show? (Clkytta: Poking my head in to see what Telzeytalks thought about this drama because I started it and dropped it. Is it worth a revisit? Let’s see what Telzeytalks has to say!)
Recently I asked which drama I should give a second chance and the answer was The Last Empress. There were many reasons why I dropped it back when it was airing, but Drama Geek said something a while back that stuck with me. She mentioned that she was revisiting dramas that she didn’t like to see if she really didn’t like them. That’s what prompted me to reconsider some of my dropped dramas, and here we are!
I have started so many dramas in the past couple of months, prepared to watch a certain story line or genre based on the plot synopsis. After beginning, though, I come to find what I was promised and what I’m actually watching are two entirely different things. Sometimes, unfulfilled expectations can be super frustrating. And sometimes, they can give you the gift of a fantastic drama you may not have pushed play on otherwise. Radiant is one of these dramas. Nothing could have prepared me for the journey I embarked on. (And that’s probably a good thing!) Come join DramaGeek and I as we share our thoughts on this hidden gem.
Sometimes the Fangirls have differing opinions about a drama. There are times we have hive-mind-like thoughts about a show, but then there are some dramas that appeal to one or two of us, but not the rest. That’s not a bad thing at all. We are all different and find value and meaning in a variety of experiences and dramas. This is certainly the case with Romance is a Bonus Book. Read on to hear why Kdrama Jen kept watching.
