4 Reasons to Watch the Chinese Drama Professional Single

Sometimes I just need a drama that isn’t deep and isn’t stressful, but is still a pretty good story. Come see if Professional Single sounds like the drama that I was looking for!

#4 – Adorable pairing

My instincts as a tall girl should be completely against this pairing — the tiniest girl in the world with the looming bean pole of a male lead. Trust me when I say there are not enough tall guys in the world.

But look at this picture. Now look at the poster above. Do you see any difference? I don’t. Our couple is adorable with their HUGE height difference. Their chemistry is strong, and I anticipate it will be a lot of fun to watch them try to make up the difference in their heights when they’re being affectionate.

#3 – Light and Fluffy

The plot for this drama is not deep at all — no one is fighting all that hard for their independence against the wishes of their family, there’s no competition in the department to be the professor’s favorite student, and even the second leads are low-key. I was looking for a light, cute story, and I found it.

#2 – Well done tropes

We know right off the bat that our lead, Qin Shen, is focused on his studies and has no time for dating. He rarely smiles and stays very private, no matter how obnoxious his roommates are being when they’re trying to get information from him. But that cold exterior slips every time he thinks Yuan Qian can’t see him. This boy has been in love from the very beginning, and it’s SO MUCH FUN to watch him melt!

Yuan Qian herself is bubbly and fun . . . and PICKY. Guys don’t live up to her standards, but even when she protests that Qin Shen is acting cold, she still has a little smile. As much fun as it is to watch Qin Shen melt, it’s just as fun to watch Yuan Qian slowly admit to herself that she likes him.

#1 – No distracting secondary couples

Qin Shen and Yuan Qian’s roommates may try to play matchmaker, but the sole focus of the romance is on the couple themselves. There’s no secondary romances thrown in as foils or fillers — I don’t even expect the second leads to be very obnoxious. This is all about our main leads and their internal battle against their mutual attraction.

Final Thoughts

This drama is just cute and fun and very binge-able, especially as I’m looking for something escapist. I can’t wait to get caught up on the newest episodes!

What do you think, drama fans? Will you be watching with me?

Until the next time Yuan Qian falls into Qin Shen’s arms, I remain —

  1. Yay! So happy you’re watching this! It’s one of my happy watches of the year. I do get a bit sick of the Cdrama trope of “special moments created by the Female Lead tripping/falling/being pushed accidentally-on-purpose being caught by the Male Lead” All the girls from dramas must all have 2 left feet be it a historic drama or a modern drama 🙂

Off I go to try and trip over somewhere with lots of hot guys …..

    • LOL. Yeah, the tripping is a bit much, but since she does it ALL THE TIME, I’m choosing to believe it’s just part of her character and is working in her favor.

  2. Definitely going to give this drama a try. Cute and fluffy is what I need right now. I actually do not like large height difference in drama couples- I find it creepy, to be honest, but I like the FL actress Irene Song and the fluffy plotline so I’m going to check out the drama in spite of the height issue.
