Does it seem like everywhere you look these days Ahn Bo Hyun pops up? I just binged My Name and I’m currently watching Yumi’s Cells, which is about to wrap up its first season, so I thought it was the perfect time to do a deep dive into his past drama list and see which shows are worth watching, and which ones are okay to skip.
The Rules of Fangirl Stalking:
We will start with the dramas I think are must watch works by the actor, followed by the shows that could go either way. This means that they are worth watching in my opinion, but I know there are some people who don’t like the genre. Last, I will cover the dramas/movies that you really could skip and not miss much (at least in regards to the actor/actress featured). These are the shows that are for die-hard fans who want to watch everything.
Must Watch

Yumi’s Cells – Ahn Bo Hyun really took this character and made him one of the most loveable male leads who is also SO relatable. Seeing inside his brain really helps, but Bo Hyun does such a wonderful job at making me totally understand and get behind Gu Woong. Spoiler ***** He’s not the end game for this drama, but they don’t make you dislike him just because he may not be the right person for Yumi. He’s slated to appear in season two, so my hope is they remain friends and we get to see what happens to him, even if she’s in other relationships. *****

My Name – This show is an action-packed eight-episode drama. There are abs! There are smexy scenes! There is a ton of great action! For the most part Bo Hyun carries a gun and isn’t doing all the fancy footwork — that is left to the star of the show, Han So Hee. I really liked his character in this and appreciated that he was willing to be the typical love interest women usually play in action movies. He supported So Hee and brought a great balance to the show.

Her Private Life – This was the first drama I remember Bo Hyun in, (even though I have seen him before) and I loved his character. He was a protective brother figure for Sung Duk Mi and was adorable with his Taekwondo students. His bromance with Ryan Gold was also fun to watch. I love when a second lead isn’t pushy and knows when to step aside, and his character really just wanted what made Duk Mi happy.

Itaewon Class – I totally didn’t realize that the horrible classmate of Park Sae Ro Yi was the loveable brother from Her Private Life. His character was so different! He did a good job at making me despise him. This drama was one of my favorites from that year, even with some of the pacing problems toward the end.
Could Go Either Way
Kairos – This could actually go in the “Must Watch” category if I was basing it on his performance. It might be his best one I’ve seen to date. Bo Hyun managed to play a character you should really dislike and make you sympathize with him and understand why he made certain choices. He also got some pretty smexy scenes in this drama too. Hmm… I’m pretty sure he’s had hot kissing scenes in 3 of the dramas I’ve mentioned already. Directors really like seeing him shirtless too. 🙂
For Die-Hard Fans
Girl’s Generation 1979 (Guest Role) – I loved this drama but I don’t remember him in it! So, if you’re watching just for him, you may be disappointed, but I still recommend it.
Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People – This is one that you shouldn’t watch just for Bo Hyun but you SHOULD WATCH. I insist, especially if you have any liking for sageuks at all. This is a glorious one that I will always try to push on people.
Descendants of the Sun – He’s an officer and you probably get to see him shirtless…
Fun Possible Watch
Investiture of the Gods -This is a Chinese drama and I have no idea how he ended up as one of the character’s aids, but it might be worth checking out.
Hiya– This is a movie from 2016 where Bo Hyun stars with Hoya (formerly of Infinite). It looks like it has a lot of potential for bromantic greatness.
What Ahn Bo Hyun dramas are on your watchlist now? I’d love to know!

He’s such a hottie
I really want to see him in a drama where he gets the girl but doesn’t die or breakup
Yeah, he doesn’t have a good track record with that so far. I think the next drama he’s slotted to be in isn’t really a romance.
