Wonder what drama has sucked us into a midnight drama binge? The answer is the Chinese drama The Starry Love. Come find out why we can’t stop watching, and why you should be joining us ASAP.
Compelling Story That Sucks You In
Kmuse: While this might not be the snazziest drama ever released, it comes through where it matters… the story. We have a drama with solid story arcs for all the leads, their best friends, and their families. I can easily name at least ten characters that I am deeply invested in which is something that rarely happens to me when watching a Chinese drama.
The Maknae: There’s a lot of silliness AND a lot of seriousness right from the get-go in this drama, and I’m loving the balance. Yetan’s resilience in the face of her father’s discrimination won my heart right away, and I absolutely had to find out what she would do next.
The Best Besties Ever
Kmuse: As I mentioned in the last section, this drama is brilliant in writing side characters that you can love. All of the leads have their friends near them when things get rough and I love them all. I’m not sure I could even choose one as my favorite. There are just many great moments that will stay in my mind for years to come.
The Maknae: The besties really make this show for me. They’re smart and helpful and very much their own people, instead of just pale reflections of the main character like some best friends can be. I love how skilled they are, too, and how protective they are of their besties.
Void Realm OTP
Kmuse: Luke Chen is a newbie to our tv screens but he has blasted to the top of my favorites list. Between his perfect “I’m in love” gaze, and He Xuan Lin’s (also new to the leading lady territory) elegant beauty, this is a couple that makes me swoon.
The Maknae: These two are adorable even as they face the obstacles between them and in front of them. I can’t help but root for their individual successes.
Heavenly Realm OTP
Kmuse: When you have a wannabe Void Princess stuck in the snooty heaven realm, being forced to marry the stoic prince is going to create hilarious chaos. Which is exactly what we get. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so much at the start of a relationship.
The Maknae: Oh, the push and pull here is SO MUCH FUN. I love Yetan and Heartless Shaodian together.
Kmuse: While this might not be on everyone’s list as to why you want to watch this drama, I have to admit Kdrama Jen and I had a lot of fun swooning over the King of the Void Realm (aka Void Daddy). All of the main leads are gorgeous, but Void Daddy had that extra sexy charisma that we appreciated. So he goes on the list.
The Maknae: Void Daddy is definitely attractive, but I’m still waiting to see if he actually DOES anything. Also, his first son Wudai cracks me UP.
Kmuse: I can’t stop watching this drama. It is like crack.
The Maknae: I’ve heard this described as xianxia comedy, and it seems to be very, very accurate. I’m loving the balance of angst and humor, and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
