The are the backbone of any good drama and just as important as the OTP (One True Pairing) in my opinion. They are the ahjussi and ahjumma character actors and these are our reigning favorites!
DAY 6 – Your favorite older actors/actresses.
KdramaJen: I love Kim Mi-Kyung and Ahn Kil-Kang and Choi Min Soo. Kim Mi-Kyung is one of the most versatile actresses. She can play a quirky computer genius (Healer), a loving mother (Heirs) and so many other supporting roles. Ahn Kil-Kang seems to be in everything. From historical dramas (Great Queen Seon Duk, Six Flying Dragons, Daebak) to contemporary shows, his acting is always solid. One of my other favorite actors is the always amazing Choi Min Soo. I especially loved him in Warrior Baek Dong Soo!
CLKYTTA: Sung Dong Il, he’s my favorite Dad in everything. I loved him from the moment I saw him in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho.
Kim Hae Sook, she is one of the reasons why I loved Marriage, Not Dating, she’s beautiful and her facial expressions and the way she carries her body make her characters so believable.
Jennie: Who doesn’t love Ahjumma from Healer? Seriously Kim Mi-Kyung is amazing in everything she does. Also, Choi Jung Woo really caught my eye in Master’s Sun and now I really enjoy him.
Drama Geek: Kim Mi Kyung rocks any roll she plays. Ra Mi Ran is my new favorite actress. She killed it as Jung Pal and Jung Bong’s mom in 1988 and she was amazing in Himalayas. Ye Ji Won is stealing the show on Another Oh Hae Young (Though I don’t really see her as that old, but dramaland does.) And I have to say I love Jeon No Min (He’s currently in Entertainer). He first stole my heart as Sun Woo’s older brother in Nine Times Nine Travel. I LOVE Byun Hee Byung who played Dal Po’s grandpa in Pinocchio. He warms my heart so much. There are a lot of others but the post will get too long. LOL.
Did we cover your favorite? Feel free to let us know in the comments and we look forward to discussing our favorite child actors in tomorrows post.
See you tomorrow,
The Fangirls
I like Lee Sung Min in Misaeng and in Memory, his acting always leave an unforgettable impression. I agree that Kim Mi Kyung (currently in Another Oh Hae Young) is great in whichever role she plays, particularly like her in Healer. Cheon Ho Jin gives off a kind fatherly vibes which fares well when he plays a leader of a country in City Hunter but strangely also a success as a ambitios and driven dictator in Doctor Stranger. Not forgetting Jun Kwang Ryul, another versatile actor, the loving father who has amnesia in Remember : War Of The Son and the sly cunning villian in Jackpot. Oh and so much more….
My favorite is Kim Mi-Kyung in every drama she has a role, which is about 6-10 a year. I adore her as Court Lady Choi in “Faith”.
I’ll chime in on Kim Mi-kyung and Choi Jung-woo, too! Other favourites are Lee Seo-jin (loved him in ‘Marriage Contract’ – is he too young to be considered an ‘older’ actor?), Lee Sung-min . . . and Yoon Yeo-jung, Na Moon-hee, Lee Soon-jae, Lee Sung-min and Ban Hyo-jung. Or would they be considered ‘much older’ actors/ actresses? In another category for grandpas and grandmas?
Oops! Had Lee Sung-min twice 😀
Hahaha since Lee Seo-jin acts like a gumpy ahjussi I totally would add him to the list.
Talking about grandpa, my favorite would be the adorable and uberloving grandpa in High School King of Savvy – everyone in the family wasn’t blood related but their bond was heartwarming (and grunching at times – if you watched it, you know which time do I refer to).
Ooh. That is a great pick. I still tear up thinking about some of his scenes.
Kim Mi Hyung is amazing in everything I see her in. You have already mentioned most of my favorites but I wanted to add the ajhussis from City Hunter – epecially Kim Sang Ho!
Lee Sung Min is incredible, if I could just erase his role in Pasta. 🙂
