There are a few times every year or so when I just get the sudden urge to blog about random things that make me happy. A few of them (GASP) might even be Non-Asian. So those of you who follow myself and Drama Geek get the privilege of finding out what else we love when we are not pouring over the latest Asian drama.
The Umbrella Academy
It seems like this is one of those shows that a person is going to either love or hate. There doesn’t seem to be many people hanging out in the middle undecided on their feelings. It just so happens that The Fangirls binge watched the heck out of this show and are impatiently waiting for season 2.

Kmuse: I binge watched this so hard that I am pretty sure the characters showed up in my dreams for a couple nights afterwords. I loved the unique characters and the ethically gray world they all lived in. And above all else I loved the music. This is going to go down as one of my all time favorite soundtracks of all time. Pure perfection.
Drama Geek: I watched the series in two days. I’ve even watched the first episode a few times so I could see the Tiffany dance montage again. This show is exactly my kind of quirky mashup of people who just happen to have superpowers. They’re delightfully dysfunctional. The soundtrack is at center stage, and it adds so much to the show. It’s no surprise that the author of the comic series is a musician. The action is awesome and it’s a lot of fun watching Mary J. Blige kick ass. Though the young actor who plays No. 5 is no slouch when it comes to action. I’m dying for season 2. Hurry up, Netflix!
BBC’s Bodyguard

Kmuse: This show came about when I was sick and not really wanting to read subtitles. I am so glad I paused on my Netflix zooming and pushed play. Bodyguard is a tightly written thriller about a war vet who works in security when he comes home. Suffering from hidden PTSD he becomes a walking time bomb in a politically stressful England poltical theater. I could not get enough of Richard Madden’s performance and it kept me on the edge of my seat (or lying sick in my bed as the case might be) for the full six hours.
The Good Place
It is rare now a days to find a truly funny 30 min comedy on prime time US television. Imagine our delight when The Good Place aired and we were able to get all the witty banter we could wish for from one hilarious source. Year after year The Good Place ups its game and has earned its place as our favorite Non-Asian show.

Kmuse: It has gotten to the point where I love every character so much that it is impossible to choose a favorite. Pretty much my favorite becomes whichever person is the focus of the YouTube clips I watch in between episodes.
Drama Geek: I am not exaggerating when I say this show and these characters have been my happy place for the last few years. When I’m depressed or stressed out, PMSing or just tired, I always come back to this show. I even binged the first two seasons right before three came out. It’s unique, funny, and even philosophically thought provoking.
Voltron
Voltron is an animated series on Netflix that shares creators with the Avatar the Last Airbender crew (I could run an entire blog on my love for that series). They managed to carry on some of my favorite things about their other series. It is a reboot of the original show, which I grew up with, though I don’t really remember watching it.

Drama Geek: This is a show you can watch with the whole family. It has action, humor, and TONS of heart. I will not share Keith with you (only my friend Juliana gets that privilege) because he is my absolute favorite character. I even have him as my Netflix avatar. To sum it up, if you’re someone who loves a great story with wonderful characters then you should try this show.
Let’s Shut Up And Dance – Jason Derulo, Lay, NCT 127

Kmuse: I can always get behind a good Dance song… and if nothing else Let’s Shut Up and Dance is a great dance song..and MV. I love that I see something new every time I watch the MV.
DramaGeek: I love this collaboration and I just love watching all of the dancers from around the world. This is the first of a series of Michael Jackson tributes. I really hope the next one might have Taemin in it…. Please?
Be sure to let us know what some of your favorite things currently are in the comments and I look forward to chatting with you in the future.
Til next time,

Dramas With a Side of Kimchi
Oh, if you guys love Avatar you have to watch the Dragon Prince! So awesome, and another great family drama 😀
I think you underestimate my love for Avatar. Lol. We have seen all of season 1 and we’re on episode 3 of season 2.
Oh, I didn’t mean to suggest it was better or something. Just that it’s by the same team and therefore also awesome! And we are also on Season 2 episode 3… how weird! 😀
No! I meant that you underestimated the fact that I wouldn’t already know about a series from anyone connect with Avatar. My family is a bit obsessed. And it’s cool we’re on the same episode.
Haha. I’m one of those rare creatures hanging out in the middle of the love it/hate it scale on Umbrella Academy. I spent a whole day binge watching it. Got about a third of the way into episode 6 and then stopped because I ran out of day. I haven’t gone back to watch it and I don’t know if I will. I don’t hate it but I’m not loving it enough to care to finish it. Plus knowing that it is just season one and I’ll have to wait for more…. Eh. We’ll see. I agree with you that the soundtrack is fun though.
The only one of these I haven’t watched and loved is Bodyguard! I’ll have to give it a try.
Ive only seen about 30 minutes of it. I like dysfunctional family, but come on, do they have to argue every time they are together in the first half of the episode. Be civil, gosh dang it. Talk to each other nicely. I’m sure that will happen, I just have to get past the first episode.
