Heh. Tight beats and pretty faces pretty much describes ALLL of kpop, but you have to come see what I think really fits the description this week. Read on for more!
SuperM – “Tiger Inside”
Man, does SuperM know how to bring the pretty or WHAT? Their latest MV is a tight mix of soaring harmonies and crisp rap layered over a straightforward beat, perfect for rolling down the windows and blasting over the car speakers. Does the beginning choreography feel a little bit like EXO’s “Growl” to you?
DONGKIZ – “Beautiful”
DONGKIZ is known for their offbeat, somewhat silly image. Imagine my surprise and delight to encounter something so strong and powerful and poetic from this group!
Seven O’clock – “Hey There”
I’m loving the complex harmonies in this song! It sounds like it should be a summer song, but there’s an added layer of seriousness that gives it depth and makes it very listenable.
M.O.N.T. – “Shadow”
M.O.N.T.’s “Tired” is still one of my favorite workout songs (I like irony), and “Shadow Music” is on its way to being a favorite for completely different reasons. I love the Rat Pack vibe they’re channeling, and the song is jazzy, and yet completely kpop. Check it out!
A.C.E. – “Goblin”
“Your favorite boys are back!” How can I *not* love a song that starts with this level of confidence? The styling in the MV is over the top — a fascinating blend of urban fantasy street style and historical costuming — but the song itself gets stuck in my head — just like the rest of A.C.E.’s hits.
BONUS TRACK: Superfive – “All Eyes on Me”
If we can have jazzy kpop, why not kpop trot? Created through the MBC show Favorite Entertainment, this 5-member group of idols is aiming to become the next trot boy group. I’m all for it!
How’s your kpop playlist looking these days, music fans? Are there other groups I should be checking out? Drop down in the comments and let me know!
Until the next flashy dance move, I remain —

One Shot by B.A.P. They’ve disbanded now…but that MV will always be one of my favs
Oooh. That is a good one! It’s the MV that got me to give B.A.P. a chance.
