Bad guys!  Sometimes we love them, sometimes we hate them, either way they are often memorable.  Come join us as we chat about our favorites and be sure to let us know the characters you love to hate in the comments.

DAY 14: Drama villain that you loved to hate or sympathized with.

KdramaJen:  The absolute craziest villain ever was the psycho from The King 2 Hearts.  That was one messed up guy.  I also despised the villain in Gu Family Book.  Now, villains that somehow captured my heart would include Yeo Woon from Warrior Baek Dong Soo. (He really was a victim of circumstance and redeemed himself, so it’s all good, right?  We forgive him for his misguided youth as an assassin, right?)

CLKYTTA: Nam Gong Min in The Girl Who Sees Smells, I loved him even though he was evil, something about his smile just gets me. He plays a bad guy so well, but I’m really enjoying him playing a good guy in Beautiful Gong Shim.

Drama Geek: Hands down my favorite villain is the serial killer from I Remember You. **SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE SHOW** The writer managed to have the good guy sit and sip tea with the bad guy and it was the most intense and totally off scenes of the show. They sipped tea and discussed murder like it was football or something. Plus, the bad guy helped solve crimes with them, and they made a totally awesome (yet creepy) team. And D.O. did a fabulous job at portraying the serial killer when he was young. Honorable mention goes to the bag guy from Faith. I honestly wanted him to win half the time, just because.

KMUSE: I have to agree with I Remember You.  They were so well developed and I was constantly shaking my head about how disfunctionally awesome they all were.  I would also give a shout out to the great bad guy Mishil from Queen Seon Deok.  I love when I find a successful bad guy that also happens to be a female.  Also, when we are on the topic of female villains…  Hong Joo in Mirror of the Witch is a pretty dynamic bad guy as well.  I can’t say she is an all time favorite since the show is still ongoing, but she has the chance to be put up there in the future.

So many bad guys and so little time to list them all.  Did we hit on your favorite?  Be sure to let us know and check back tomorrow for new challenge questions.

See you tomorrow,

  1. Oh, the bad guy in I Can Hear Your Voice. For a guy who had no super power, no money, wealth or connection, he actually managed to cause quite a lot of damage. Plus, when you hear his story at the end, you feel just a bit of pity for him as his ill-fated wife.

  2. “I remember you” too… This show managed to make me feel sorry for the bad guys and got my heart to ache for the serial killers. Esp for min.

  3. OMG that weird little bromance team in Monster: I Remember You ! LOVE that so much LOL and our boy Yeo Woon (oh & his OH so sexy older sunbae ninja badguy) in Warrior Baek Dong Soo! He & Dong Soo were the MAIN couple there LOL LOL LOL – not in a sexy romantic way but in a bromantic tragic OMG the feels sort of way…

  4. Yup, the serial killers from I Remember You, Mishil from Queen Seon-deok and the villain from King 2 Hearts have my vote, too!

  5. Yeon Woo-jin gave me chills in “Arang and the Magistrate”. And veteran actor Lee Deok-hwa plays a very convincing bad guy, first drama that comes to mind is “Hotel King”….the things he (his character) did to those young boys was brutal and sadistic.

  6. There are plenty of villains I hated, the ones from Hear your voice and King2hearts maybe being the worst. Villains I sympathized with is a different matter. I would say the older brother in Pinnocchio, so sad about him. Couldn’t believe he could really be bad. And the flute player with the white hair in Faith. Just because of the way he looked.

  7. Oh the villains in “I Remember You” sure were glorious. The characters were well-written and the actors nailed it!
Shin Sung Rok was awesomely creepy in “My Love from Another Star”, but I think I liked him even more in “Liar Game”. Total psycho, but clever, hot and really entertaining!
And Yeo Woon was basically the only reason that kept me watching “Warrior Baek Dong Soo” until the end. Though I kind of regretted it as the ending broke my heart.
Really interesting topic, makes you realise how important bad guys are in dramas…
