There are a few rules in Dramaland that everyone is required to follow. First, is that you have to at least try to watch the latest Hong Sister drama so you can decide if it is going to be one of their hits or misses. The second, if Lee Bo Young decides to take on a serious mother focused role, you sit back and watch because this is going to be the ratings winner that the drama community is going to be talking about. It is almost a guarantee… like the sun rising from the East. It just is the way it is.
So, needless to say, when this teaser popped into my radar, I had already planned on adding it to my viewing rotation. But now I can be excited about it on its own merit because the synopsis and visuals are crazy good.
When I first watched the teaser I thought this was going to be something similar to Gods Gift where Lee Bo Young goes all crazy momma over her cub. But, it turns out this time she goes crazy and it is not even her kid. Instead, we have Lee Bo Young as a substitute teacher who sees one of her students coming to school with bruises. She decides that the kid is being abused and flipping kidnaps the child to raise as her own. Oh snap, that is going to be some good messed up angst. This is a remake of the Japanese hit of the same name from 2010 so it should be a very solid story. At least, I am crossing my fingers it is since the concept sounds fascinating.
Mother begins airing on January 24th. Will you join me in watching?
Lee Bo-young is a decent actress, but she’s no Matsuyuki Yasuko.
