Zombies are rising in the 1st teaser for Netflix drama Kingdom

I feel like I have been waiting forever for the sageuk zombie-themed drama Kingdom, to the point I had almost forgotten it was coming out soon. But it is back on my radar full force. Come check out the 1st teaser as I discuss why Zombies might just work for the small screen.

Synopsis: Crown Prince Lee Chang (Ju Ji-Hoon) is denounced a traitor after the dead King comes back to life. He seeks out to uncover the truth behind people who turn into zombies after being starved. (Asianwiki)

In past attempts of South Korean dramas adopting traditional horror monsters, I have had mixed reactions with a tendency to go to the negative. Sorry, but the Vampire genre has been abysmal for the most part. But this first teaser has me really feeling positive for zombies. At least zombies that have a ton of Netflix cash behind them to make it look high end.

Both Bae Doona & Joo Ji Hoon shine in the teaser and the zombies are creepy as heck.  But most importantly, the script is penned by Kim Eun-Hee, who happens to be one of my top three drama writers.  She is the type of writer that can transport a show from good to amazing, and I can’t wait to see what she does with historical crown politics and zombies. Kingdom will air on January 25th on Netflix.  Will you be watching?
