There are always clues when the seasons begin to change. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, the days might be starting to cool off, pumpkin spice is invading the menu everywhere, and aisles of Halloween candy are fully stocked already! Another clue that fall is on its way is the shift into dark and moody aesthetics in all our Kpop MVs. Come join me as we bid farewell to summer with DAY6 and welcome September with a double dose of KEY!!
DAY6 (Even of Day) – ‘해변의 달링’
Even of Day is the three-member sub-unit featuring Young K, Wonpil and Dowoon. And this fun summer bop (an ode to all the beach babes out there) is hitting the sweet spot for this island girl! The combo of their signature DAY6 sound and silly antics in the MV are just perfect!
CIX – ‘458’
I’ll admit I’m a bit baffled by the concept for this MV, but ‘458’ made it to my playlist because the song kept me guessing throughout. From the opening piano-focused chords to the transition in and out of the chorus to the bridge – I enjoyed the twists and turns this title track threw down!
Ha Sung Woon – ‘Focus’
I almost passed on this song, but when the Michael Jackson inspired chorus kicked in, I decided to stick around. I’m glad I did! The catchy beat and sharp choreography are addictive and I am FOCUSED!
KEY – ‘Gasoline’ & ‘Another Life’
SHINee’s Key is back and I am combusting!! ‘Gasoline’ swooped in out of nowhere and totally caught me off guard – this music is bringing ALL the anthem feels and the MV is pretty epic too!! I would be lying if I didn’t say that the whole package gave me Taemin vibes (anyone else miss Taemin too?!?!). . . but where Taemin is smooth and sultry, Key comes out swinging with a more raw and edgy punch. I LOVE IT!!
Just in case you need another incentive to check out the entirety of Key’s new album Gasoline, ’Another Life’ is also a great track from this new collection of songs! Seriously though, the whole album is fire – check it out!!
Bonus Track: PSY – ‘That That’
We’ve all heard and seen PSY’s new hit ‘That That’, right?! But have you seen him performing for a massive stadium audience while the crowd sings along AND Suga makes a surprise guest appearance?? The energy from this clip of his Summer Swag concert performance was INSANE – Go! Watch!
