Our January drama throwback series continues and I would be remiss if I didn’t review one of the dramas starring my #1 bias, Seo In Guk. Especially when it was announced that he is finally having a drama comeback in 2021. So before you check out Seo In Guk’s latest drama, come join me in discussing one of his classic dramas that is worth watching.
Warning: There will be minor spoilers for the drama
Double the Seo In Guk

In King of High School Savvy, Seo In Guk plays two brothers. One, a company bigwig living in Germany. The other, a high school hockey star who focuses more on sports then scholastics. Unable to return to South Korea for a new job, the older brother asks the younger brother to take his place and pretend to be the new manager for a well known company. Did I mention the two brothers are identical despite the age difference? Let the hijinks begin.
Quirky leading lady

So, let’s take a quick moment to discuss Lee Ha Na. There were a lot of people that felt her character/acting style wasn’t that of a proper leading lady. This was before being quirky was popular and you had a very strict standard for what was expected. Personally, I loved her character. She was awkward, geeky, and someone who didn’t fit into a traditional box. Even more then there being quirky, I love that they didn’t change her throughout the show. There was no sudden glamup where our odd duck turned into a glamorous swan. She remained odd and our leading man loved her for who she was. I would say that if Lee Ha Na is a bit off-putting at first, you give her a chance to charm you with her sincerity.
Age Gap

Another thing that puts some people off is the age difference. This isn’t something that really upset me, I do know it is a no go for some people. So this is me warning you that it is there.
Why I loved this show

There were multiple reasons I really enjoyed this drama. The first, of course, was Seo In Guk. He is an actor that can play any character, any genre, and make it memorable. For those of you who have not watched one of his dramas yet, it is a great one to start with. King of High School Savvy also had some AMAZING skinship. I remember catching my breath during the famous broken arm kiss. All the kisses were unique and memorable. This drama also contains a really solid story with great leads and hilarious side characters. It is the whole package, which is why I chose it as my throwback pick.
Do you love this drama as much as I do? Are you new and wanting to watch? Let us know in the comments and be sure to check back all month as we take a look at some of the best hidden gem dramas of the past 15 years.
Til the next throwback,

Where can I watch it? I haven’t seen it on Viki or Netflix
Unfortunately, it looks like they took it off of viki, so nowhere legal right now
I’m a huge fan of Seo In Guk. KOHSS is the first SIG drama DVD that I bought so it says something about the fondness I have for this guy and this drama. It is the start of SIG’s evolution in adding different dimensions and nuances to his character development. He is indeed consolidating his masterful kissing skills in that not one kiss is the same. I also saw shades of Lee Hyun (Hello Monster) in the older brother’s character and hints of Shopaholic Loui’s impishness and playfulness in Min Suk. Look at the way Min Suk stuffed his mouth full of food. Lol. It is also memorable as being the first collab between SIG and Lee Soo Hyuk which carried over to Pipeline and Destruction/Ruin. 2021 is going to be so awesome with our beloved Gukkie back acting and singing the OST for his new drama as well. I am feeling so blessed.
I only saw this drama recently even though I’m a fan of Seo In Guk. I love this drama. It really is the whole package. Seo In Guk was fantastic in this.
