Oh, I have been waiting for Park Bo Gum to grace my screen again, and the teasers for Encounter do not disappoint. We usually reserve the term “mane of glory” for the sageuk and historical locks, but Park Bo Gum just owns this look. It is not hard to imagine someone being tempted, perhaps longing, for an “encounter.”
Alternatively titled Boyfriend, Song Hye Kyo (Descendants of the Sun) plays the role of Cha Soo Hyun, daughter of a politician. After graduating from college, she entered into a loveless marriage with a chaebol, a marriage designed to assist her politician father. Even after divorcing her husband, Cha Soo Hyun is trapped in a life of obligation. A chance encounter with Kim Jin Hyuk, played by Park Bo Gum (Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, Reply 1988), changes her life. His happiness and appreciation for ordinary life is so foreign compared to anything Cha Soo Hyun has ever known. Is there hope for something beyond an encounter when two people lead such different lives?
The writer, Yoo Young Ah, is hit and miss for me. I have enjoyed her movies (No Breathing, My Annoying Brother) more than her dramas (Entertainer), but this is a strong cast, so I have hope. I am also intrigued by social media posts that indicate this drama was partially filmed in Cuba. I always enjoy the opportunity to see new places through the eyes of the characters. Plus, the teasers give Park Bo Gum such an ethereal look, who wouldn’t be tempted by his charm and energy? I will definitely be watching. Will you? Please leave your thoughts in the comments.
Until the next encounter…
